The neuroscience is a very promising and potential discipline of life sciences and it comes to encompass a growing number and diversity of special research areas involving brains and the related central and peripheral tissues. The key topics of research and studies to understand and to unfold the mystry of brains and brain related functions are neurochemistry, neurophysiology, neurobiochemistry, developmental neurobiology, neuropharmacology, neurotoxicology, neuroimmunology, neuroendocrinolgy, neuroanatomy, organizational and chemical complexities of nervous system, nerve impulse conduction and transmission, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neurotransmitters-mediating enzymes, their purifications, characterizations and genetics and molecular biology and chromozomal studies.
Other important neurochemical research areas on brains are: to understand the processes of memory and learning, artificial intelligence, thinking, dreams, sleep, sex, mood, neurobehavior, emotion of higher animals including the humans. The details of neurochemical, biochemical, genetics and molecular biology studies and treatment aspects are not yet clearly understood of most of the brain diseases, like, Parkinson’s disease, Wilson disease, Huntington disease, schizophrenia, Shy-Drager Syndrome, Perioral Dyskenesia, Manic Depressive Illness. The visual processes, listening, pains, love, affection, sex, cardiovascular regulation, muscle contraction- relaxation, mood, behavior, mania, tremors of hands-legs-bones, feelings of hot and cold, annoyingness, temperature control of body, feelings of touches, excitement, and thousands other functions are controlled and performed by the various parts of brains, but the exact mechanisms of these processes are not yet known.

The Chief Guest of the Conference , the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and Chairman of NRCDU, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the Conferrence with the huge applaudable clapps from the housefull audience. In his speech, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique called upon the doctors, academicians and researchers to conduct comprehensive research on neuroscience to heal brain related diseases in humans. He also stressed to conduct the global standard research to face the neurological problems. The Plenary Lecture was delivered by the Plenary Speaker and the Guest of Honor Professor Dr. Quazi Deen Mohammad, Director, National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINSH) and the Executive Council Member of NRCDU.
The Plenary Lecture was delivered by the Plenary Speaker and the Guest of Honor Professor Dr. Quazi Deen Mohammad, Director, National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINSH) and the Executive Council Member of NRCDU. In his speech, Dr. Quazi Deen Mohammad, narrated with example the Past, Present and Future status of Neuroscience in Bangladesh. He said that the branch of Neuroscience is very promising and potential field in the modern research worldwide. Most of the research are related to brain which is an organ of mystry that still needs to discover in the field of neuro chemistry, neuro physiology, neuro transmitter, neuro pharmacology, neuro immunology, neuro anatomy and so on. The diseases arising from brain are commonly due to degenerative, infective, vascular and metabolic one. Where there is complex interplay of neuro transmitter, neuro immunology, neuro pahtology as well. Some of them we know but the vast majority are unknown. The research in this field will definitely discover the unknown one and will make easy to diagnose and treatment of Neurological diseasesdisease such as dementia, Parkinsons disease, motor neuron disease & stroke etc. All of these disease not only incurable but also most common cause of death and disability worldwide. In Bangladesh all of these disease are quite prevalent and causing significant damage to the family, society and to the nation as well. The branch of Neuroscience in Bangladesh is still in childhood. In 2012 we have an world standard Institute of Neuroscience in Dhaka with all modern facilities for disease diagnosis and treatment with resource constrains the research activities in some on and we are conducting collaborative research with ICDDR,B, ANGIOS and International research institute in UK, USA.
The laboratory facilities for neurological disease diagnosis is still limited in our country but pharmaceuticals in this field are quite ahead. Currently we have almost all necessary drugs available. Most of these are produced locally. He added that the establishment of another Neuroscience Centre in Dhaka University, namely, Neuroscience Research Center of Dhaka University (NRCDU) will certainly enrich the quality and quantity of existing facilities and will carry benefits for all.
Many people from the Public and Private universities, Medal Universities and Medical Colleges, various Research Organizations and doctors and scientists from home and abroad showed their interests in this 1st Neuroscience National Conference. Prof. Dr. Mansur Habib (Head of Neurology Dept, DMC), and Professor Dr. Istiaq Mahmud(BMB, DU) acted as the Sessions Chairpersons of Invited Lectures of Sessions 1 and 3, the Invited Speakers were Prof. Dr. Badrul Haque (Retired Professor of Neurology, DMC), Professor Dr. Md. Ismail Khan ( Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Du; Principal, DMC, now, the VC of Cig. Med. Univ.), Dr. Alam Nur-E-Kamal (Department of Biology, Medgar Evers College of the City University, New York, USA), Profressor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman (Chairman, Paediatric Neurology Dept., BSMMU), Prof. Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman (BMB, DU and Director, NRCDU) and Dr. Abdus Salam (Asstt. Prof., Neurology Dept., SANS Hospital, Khulna).
The Session Chairs (Sessions 2 and 4) of Oral Presentations were Professor Dr. Nur-E-Kamal (City Univ. New York) and Prof. Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman (BMB, DU and NRCDU) and the Co-Chairs were Prof. Dr. Anwarul Azim Akand (GEBD, DU) and Prof. Dr. Shahdat Hossain (BMB, JU). A total of 12 papers could be accommodated for oral presentations out of total of 25 Abstracts published in the Abstract Book (Souvenir).
In the conclusions of the 1st National Conference on Neuroscience Research in Bangladesh with the theme, Prospect and Potentialities of Neuroscience Research in Bangladesh, it can be said that this health related discipline – Neuroscience and its research have great prospect and potentialities in Bangladesh as Bangladesh is a densely populated country and they are also the victims of a lot of neuronal and brain diseases and disorders. But this discipline is still in the infancy state in our country. So the doctors, professors, researchers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, neurochemist, neurobiochemist, psychologist, should work together to solve the problems of neuronal diseases without wasting any more time. Brain mystry that still needs to discover in the field of neuro chemistry, neuro physiology, neuro transmitter, neuro pharmacology, neuro immunology, neuro anatomy and so on. The diseases arising from brain are commonly due to degenerative, infective, vascular and metabolic one. It was stressed in the Conference that the research in neuroscience should preferably be collaborative with the organizations within the country or with those outside the country. It was very hopeful information that our pharmaceuticals are producing many of the neuro-drugs in our country. It is also be noted that the huge number of medicinal plants available in our country should be screened out to find out the activators or inhibitors of brain tissues leading to discover the new drug discovery. As in his speech, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique called upon the doctor, academicians and researchers to conduct comprehensive research on neuroscience to heal brain related diseases in humans. He also stressed to conduct the global standard research to face the neurological problems.
